Why Are You Looking At Me?
I Just Have Down Syndrome
Lisa Tompkins - Author Ryan Eubanks - Illustrator
I am a mother, grandmother and a former licensed therapeutic foster parent, who spent many years reading to the children in my life. I have never come across a children's book that deals with the way society sees and treats people with Down Syndrome. As a mother of a 22 year old daughter with Down Syndrome, I felt compelled to tell Lynn's story.
This story is about the life of a child with Down Syndrome that wants to be your friend. Lynn may look different than most children, but she has many of the same likes and dislikes. She struggles with the way society stares and whispers based on the way she looks, rather than who she is.
With Lynn's story, I hope people will discover what it means to accept and embrace a relationship with people who are different.
